This week was dedicated creating Ideas for the lab next week and working on the printer tutorial. The tutorial is almost done, I will finish it this weekend and email it out to the group to make revisions.
The ideas that I have for next year are:
-Creating Learning contracts that hold students responsible for their individual projects.
-Lab involvement in campus activities at the beginning of the year such as GSA cookouts etc.
-Continuing the Blogging next year
-Having lab employees gear their lab work towards professional development (roundtable discussion, poster presentations, journal articles, etc.)
-Maybe have past lab GA's come in and explain the position one day during the training.
Yes, Brian, that is really a good idea to combine lab work with GA's professional work. In this way, the work would be more efficient. Looking forward to your tutorial.
ReplyDeleteBrian, you have some good ideas for next year. BTW, what is learning contracts? I am just curious what it is. :-)
ReplyDeleteA learning contract involves having learners, collaboratively decide with the manager what their learning goals for the year will be. The goals will be drafted on a document and reviewed at the end of each semester. This will give the learner a sense of empowerment and ownership in the learning process.
ReplyDeletelove the idea of learning contracts. It will set clear objectives to guid the lab work, and also ask each GA to take their reponsibilities they like.
ReplyDeleteWhooooow! contract, learning contract, juz another one of those binding stuff to add to phone contract, rent contract, car contract, water/electricity contract, marriage contract, life insurance contract. Brian, i'm just glad that we did not sign a contract to do fun stuff like jog in the park.
ReplyDeleteSorry for my apprehension; but for a learning community, accountability may flow from peer esteem and scholastic excellence. Sounds elitist though! May be some scholars want to spend a whole semester with nothing to show at the end. Now for their likes, ID them, draft a contract, set goals, benchmarks and stuff.
Interesting that its a contract that will incite invention into a scholar. Interesting, but sad.
